ABSTRACT: Story maps are creative ways for students to apply skills and concepts they are learning in their courses. Furthermore, story maps are relatively easy to make, and this opens up opportunities for use in courses where learning or applying GIS is not emphasized. This session will discuss ways that I have used story maps in my undergraduate and graduate courses as well as independent student research. Story map assignments are used as assessments for short 2- or 3-week topical units or longer-term semester-long projects. Lessons learned and grading rubrics will be discussed. Please come to share your experiences with or interest in using story maps in your K-12 classes or higher education courses.
